The "Truths" and "Secrets" of MLM

When was the last time you saw something like this,

• "If you're not making $20,000/month you need to check this out?"

or how about this one,

and the best one ever,

So, you guarantee to build my downline.

* Yeah, right!! *

Oh really, if I start now I can earn $5000 in the next 30 days.

* In your dreams! *

$20,000/month, that's a lot of money.

* OK, I'll get on that right away! *

Let's face it, nobody is going to build your downline, except you. And there is no way that you will make $5000 in the first 30 days of promoting any program. As far as making $20,000/per month, yes it's possible, there are people out there making that much. In fact there are people out there making 3 - 4 times that amount each month BUT that is after years and years of hard work and dedication. You don't just walk into that kind of money.

I do not disapprove of MLM, in fact, I'm in love with the industry and my goal here is not to disenchant you as to the possibilities of MLM, I only want to be realistic. Sure, it's great to dream, there are a lot of big numbers floating around out there, I get caught up in them all the time, but when it comes down to it nobody is going to build your business for you, nobody, you have to do it yourself. You have to work hard for your own success.

I sometimes think of MLM as bright lights , which can be easily done with all those 6 digit income possibilities that everyone talks about. But sooner or later you're going to have to put on your sunglasses so you can get a look at the real picture or you're just setting yourself up for a whole bunch of dissappointment.

As I said before, the point of this is not to pick apart MLM, it is rather to more realistically inform anyone interested or involved in MLM about the "Real Truths" and what I believe to be the "Secrets" of becoming successful in Network Marketing.

*Disclaimer - Before I go any further I want to make sure that everyone understands that the truth's and secret's I'm about to unfold only pertain to upstanding, legitimate MLM companies and opportunities.*

And now for the "Secrets" that will determine your success. Now, granted these aren't very well kept secrets, you may very well have heard them before, but I think that sometimes people just overlook them in the hopes that there IS a real secret out there.

Now, I know there are other truths and other secrets, but I think these few that I have listed are the major ones. If you feel I've missed a big one please let me know I'd be happy to add it to the list.

- ONE FINAL THOUGHT - ( about online MLM's )

I live in a foreign country and I don't speak the local language very well so my only choice is to promote my MLM online and I have learned a few lessons. Especially about choosing your upline.

In the days before promoting on the Internet we had to recruit "Face to Face." We went through our "Warm Markets", we walked and talked, held presentations, cold called and so on. We met our prospects face to face and when they signed up it was because they believed in the opportunity and they believed in US. They got to know us on a close personal basis and were confident that we would supply them with the upline support that they deserved. This is so different from today's world of internet promoting. We are always hidden behind a computer screen, perhaps never meeting our prospects or recruits personally.

I was so naive when I signed up with my first online MLM. I saw a fancy website, read some great promises about the best support on the internet. I was so excited I quickly filled out the application and signed up. But how quickly that excitement fizzled.

My upline finally returned my messages after trying to get a hold of him for two weeks. Oh he apologized profusely, told me he's been so busy and not to worry it will never happen again. But nothing changed, he just didn't seem to care about me at all. So I called the company and requested to be allowed to change distributors. As stated in the companies terms and conditions, a distributor was allowed to change sponsors if they felt they were unethically sponsored which I certainly was.

That was my first bad experience with "Internet Upline's" but, unfortunately not my last. I found out that words can be cheap on the Internet and that when someone says they will give great support, it doesn't necessarily mean you will get it.

My advice when signing up online, ask questions, find out for sure what kind of support you will get. There are just too many people out there saying, "We give great support, we promise this and we promise that" and when it really comes down to it they give little or no support at all.

We all need support, so be careful choosing your upline.
